While there is never a wrong time to consider cosmetic surgery, there are some times of the year that come with certain benefits. While the holiday season is a time for celebration, family gatherings, and regrouping from the busyness of the preceding months, this season is also the ideal time to consider surgery.
1. You’ll Heal in Time for Summer
Cosmetic surgery is not an overnight deal. For any surgical procedure, it’s impossible to have surgery one day and be completely healed and back to normal the next. More often than not, patients desire cosmetic surgeries, such as body contouring procedures, so that they can show off their slim figures in bathing suits, shorts, and sundresses during the summer. Unfortunately, to accomplish this, you need to factor in the recovery period. Bruising, swelling, and initial wound healing takes time (up to a few months for some procedures). Instead of dealing with this during the summer, why not plan your surgery during the holidays so that you have ample time to recover before bikini weather starts?
2. You Have Holiday Time Off
Most cosmetic surgeries require you to take one to two weeks off of work. Instead of using all of your vacation time to recover, why not plan your surgery just before the holidays when you are likely to have some time off. This way, you can use those days you would have taken off for recovery to do something you would rather be doing.
3. There Are Extra Hands Around the House
Just as you will have some extra days off from work around the holidays, so will some of your family and friends. You can use this to your benefit. During the initial days of your recovery, you will need help with everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, driving your children around, and sometimes even showering and dressing. Instead of asking those closest to you to take time off of work or school, make it easier for everyone by scheduling your procedure when everyone has extra time away.
4. Winter Weather Makes Healing Easier
Unfortunately, there is a recovery period regardless of the type of cosmetic surgery that you undergo. For some procedures, such as liposuction, the recovery period lasts a few days to one or two weeks. However, for other procedures, like tummy tuck surgery, the recovery period is more extensive, ranging from two to eight weeks of limited activity. During this period, relaxation is of the utmost importance. While movement in the form of leisurely walks is recommended to ensure blood flow and a more rapid recovery, strenuous activities and exercises are prohibited. You should spend the majority of your recovery period resting easily. This is easier said than done in the warm summer months, when the sun and blue sky are just on the other side of the window, beckoning you outside. Resting and relaxing is simply easier when the weather is cold, cloudy, and rainy. Ideally, we want you to be healed by summer, not healing during summer.
