How Does Sculptra® Work?
Sculptra® treatment starts with a consultation to determine the individual’s aesthetic goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. This minimally invasive, in-office procedure is perfect for busy patients.
Before beginning, the treatment area is cleaned. Sculptra® is pre-mixed with a local anesthetic (lidocaine) to minimize discomfort, but a topical numbing cream may also be applied, depending on the patient’s needs. Our experienced provider will then carefully and strategically inject Sculptra® into the deep layers of skin where collagen stimulation is most effective.
After the injections, our injector will massage the treated areas to distribute the solution evenly and prevent lumps from forming. We recommend patients follow the “5-5-5 rule” to further ensure the solution is evenly distributed and to maximize the collagen-stimulating effects. This technique involves massaging the treated areas for five minutes, five times a day, for five days after treatment.
The number of injections and sessions needed will vary depending on the patient’s goals. Most individuals require a series of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart for best results. Each session should take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas treated.
Combination Treatments
Combining Sculptra® with other treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic or laser resurfacing can further enhance and prolong the rejuvenation effect.
What to Expect After Sculptra® Treatment
One of the unique things about Sculptra® is its gradual effect. Unlike traditional fillers, patients won’t see immediate results after the treatment. Instead, the body will start to build collagen over time, and noticeable improvements in skin texture, volume, and elasticity will occur over several weeks.
Following the treatment, patients often experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection sites. This is a typical response and resolves within a day or two. Bruising is also possible but can be minimized by avoiding blood thinning medications or supplements before the procedure. A few weeks after the last treatment session, most patients see a significant improvement in facial volume, skin texture, and overall rejuvenation.
How Long Do Sculptra® Results Last?
One of the best things about Sculptra® is the longevity of its results. While traditional fillers last between six and 18 months, Sculptra® can last two years or more because the product promotes the body’s ability to increase collagen production, which provides natural and long-lasting support to the skin and underlying tissues. Please note that Sculptra® does not stop the natural aging process.
